Modular, Logical Design: Here at DZR we firmly believe that your content is what's important. To that end we believe in strictly separating your data from information about how it should be presented and manipulated. Our sites are entirely modular - data, presentational information (such as style sheets), and client and server side scripts are kept totally separate from one another, allowing you to easily change one without affecting the others. Markup is never used for presentational purposes, but only ever to classify the logical structure of your data. Perhaps unsurprisingly we are committed to either moving our clients completely over to XML and XSLT where possible, or making it as easy as possible to make the transition at a later date.
Standards Compliance: Who won the browser war? Microsoft or Netscape? Neither. The W3C were the real winners. In the past browser manufacturers competed against one another by introducing proprietary extensions to HTML which only their browsers fully supported. Now browser manufacturers compete on how fully they implement standards recommended by the W3C. Here at DZR our focus is set firmly on designing standards compliant sites. Whilst we can and do support older non-compliant browsers, our adherence to W3C standards helps ensure that your sites are accessible to your users, and will continue to be so, regardless of which browser they are using, or indeed whether they are using their mobile phone, TV, or refrigerator to browse your site.
Clear, Simple User Interfaces: We've noticed a worrying trend recently. Just as in the 1980s and the early 1990s the absolute thing in magazine publishing was to use typefaces that were actually hard to read, and use layout which disorientated the reader, today a number of websites primarily designed by graphic designers boast of their "obscure navigation" and hard to find links. Well, call us old fashioned, but we actually think that websites should be easy to navigate, and that the graphic design should not obscure your content, but emphasize it.
Dynamic Content: Harness the power of dynamic content. Populate your pages with data drawn directly from your databases, ensuring that the content is always up to date, and making manual editing of your pages a thing of the past. Dynamic content is also flexible content: by only sending out the information your users are actually interested in, and by making the content interactive at the client side, you can reduce the load on your servers, making your sites seem snappier and more responsive.
