Projects

These are the projects I am currently involved in outside of professional web development. They are either open source projects or projects that I work on on an otherwise voluntary basis.

The Electronic Palimpsest

The Electronic Palimpsest is a project hosted by The British Library focusing on the difficulties literary archivists and curators confront with digital media. I have been investigating the issues arising from the archival of author's email, and have been working (slowly) on a proposal for an XML storage format and the inclusion of Dublin Core and EAD metadata in RDF format.

Emacs WebDev Environment

I used to use HTML Helper Mode, an Emacs major mode for HTML. I had begun to make revisions to it to incorporate full support for HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.0, and CSS Levels 1 and 2.

However, I abandoned those plans when I moved over to an (X)HTML editing environment for Emacs using psgml-mode for SGML/XML editing in conjunction with the DTDs for (X)HTML from the W3C, and using mmm-mode to define sub-modes for Javascript (using javascript-generic-mode), CSS (using css-mode), and PHP (using php-mode). It also provides support from within Emacs for HTML Tidy.
